University Police detained a man in Bell Memorial Union at 11 a.m. on March 28.

Chico State public relations manager, Andrew Staples, said UPD arrived at the BMU after calls about a “disruption,” and that the man detained is not a student or staff member at Chico State.

“Upon contact with UPD, the individual became uncooperative and a brief physical struggle ensued,” Staples said.

Staples said the man was arrested and taken to Butte County Jail, and that no one was injured in the arrest.

The man was first seen walking around the second floor of the BMU around 9 a.m. Jasmine Chavez, an associated students employee, said the man entered BMU room 220 between 10:30 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.

BMU facilities manager Victor Trujillo confronted the man until University Police showed up.

Both Chavez and Trujillo referred to the man as “homeless.”
