The Chico State softball team has shown fans week after week why it is the No. 3 ranked Division II team in the nation. The team sits atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a record of 35-3 overall and a 25-3 record in conference.

On top of an outstanding season, the team has broken numerous school records as well as leading in some of the top categories in the CCAA. Here, we break down some Chico State records the team has broken this year as well as some Wildcats atop the CCAA.

Worley regularly finds herself on base and her 25 stolen bases often put her in scoring position. Worley was second in batting average for the Wildcats in 2017 trailing only Ari Marsh.

2. Runs scored

Shortstop Wendy Cardinali has had an outstanding season so far with a .340 batting average and 35 hits on the year. Cardinali has 41 runs scored, currently good enough for league’s top spot.

4. Home Runs

One record the team broke this year was most home runs in a season and Bailey Akins and Karli Skowrup have had a lot to do with this. Akins leads the team with 11 home runs followed by Skowrup’s nine. This puts them at the number two and three spot for most home runs in the CCAA.

5. Strikeouts (Pitchers)

Haley Gilham was recently named CCAA pitcher of the week for the fifth time on the year. Gilham trails only UC San Diego’s Robyn Wampler in strikeouts on the year. She is just one strikeout behind Wampler with 12 games remaining..
