The Chico State Wildcats snapped a two-game skid with a 76-62 win over the Cal State LA Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Meadow Aragon notched her fifth straight double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Coming off back-to-back losses, the Wildcats were looking to get things back on track against a formidable opponent in the Golden Eagles. Straight off the tip, Chico State was looking to make a statement with their energy. Senior guard Jordan Allred came out the gates aggressively, crashing the boards and collecting a career-high 13 rebounds to go with nine points.
“Everybody else is doing their job boxing out, and I just go in and get the rebound, so it’s definitely a team thing, not just one person going and getting the boards,” Allred said.
The Wildcats put some distance between themselves and the Golden Eagles, outscoring them 28-17 in the second quarter. Chico State entered the half with a 13-point lead, and from then on, they never looked back.
“It’s been a huge emphasis to pump each other up,” Aragon said. “We weren’t used to losing, and then we lose two in a row, and we decided not to feel bad for ourselves and just put everything we have into our teammates.”
The Golden Eagles sophomore guard Sofia Fidelus gave the Wildcats problems all night, piling on a game-high 30 points with six threes. Chico State’s Makenzi Laporte racked up 18 points for the tenth time this season, shooting 40% from the field.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 14-4 (9-3 CCAA) on the year and are in sole possession of third place in the CCAA standings. Chico State will look to carry over Saturday’s momentum into next week’s two-game road trip, where they’ll be taking on the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes and the second-place Cal Poly Pomona Broncos.
“I think we had a little bit of a dip in energy after losing the last two,” Allred said. “After this feeling of winning again, we are going to get back on that train like this is who we really are.”
The Wildcats’ next home game will be on Feb. 6 against the Stanislaus State Warriors in the Acker Gymnasium.
