More than ever, nonprofit student-run college newspapers help fill the news deserts in our communities. They provide aspiring journalists with a sustainable platform for exposure and a laboratory to hone their craft. The Orion is no exception. It exists to provide the Chico State community with an independent voice that will speak truth to power.
With your support, The Orion can continue to publish without resorting to paywalls, clickbait, and pop-up ads. Your support will keep The Orion a nonprofit, educational learning laboratory where students can pursue journalism excellence and compete for statewide and national recognition.
Please contribute $25 or more to help The Orion remain a sustainable and independent source of news at Chico State.
With your past support, Orion journalists have broken several important stories before any other news organization in Butte County. Thanks to your direct support, Orionites have also been able to travel to prestigious journalism conferences and competitions where they further honed their skills.
Why are donations necessary?
The Orion is a nonprofit newsroom. The funding that we receive directly from the university is restricted, meaning that alone can’t fund our news gathering efforts. Donations help pay awards for student editors and allow students to travel to student media competitions and conferences. They help keep The Orion sustainable as a nonprofit, independent, student-run newsroom.
