On Sunday, the Chico State women’s soccer team faced off against the Chaminade Swords in Hilo, Hawai`i for the last game of the road trip. In a tough and equal match, neither team managed to sink a goal, resulting in a scoreless draw.
Although the Wildcats took four shots on goal, the Chaminade defense held them down for the full 90 minutes with 12 fouls and one yellow card.
The Wildcat defense was equally as solid, with 14 fouls and zero cards, they matched their opponents efforts and shut out their offense as well. Senior defender Klaye Barres and freshman Natalie Nevarez each had one save, spoiling Chaminades’ two shots on goal.
The Wildcats were charged with one offsides in comparison to the Swords two, while both teams were awarded three corner kicks.
Senior forward Jiana Martin, sophomore forward Aiyana Finley, Barres and Nevarez each attempted one shot on goal.
Additionally, junior goalkeeper Claire Schnabel, senior midfielder Hannah Pieri, sophomore defender Gabby Starr, freshman Malia Bell, Barres and Nevarez all played the full 90 minutes of the game.
The Wildcats will make their home game debut on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Simon Fraser Red Leafs. The University Soccer Stadium grants free entry with Chico State student ID card, or presents their Canvas home page.
