Over 1,000 scholarships for next year are available through a short application: the Wildcat Scholarship. It closes Sunday at midnight.
There are only two questions to fill out, one asks about educational goals and the other focuses on financial need. This year, for the first time, most scholarships don’t require a recommendation letter.
“This change was implemented to help reduce unnecessary barriers in the application process and increase accessibility for students,” said the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. “However, a select number of scholarships still maintain this requirement due to specific donor requirements.”
The scholarship is open to undergraduates and graduates in all majors, as long as the student has a minimum 2.0 GPA and will take at least 12 units. A FAFSA or CADAA must also be submitted by Mar. 2.
Depending on the major, some supplemental items may be needed, such as an audition for the Department of Music and Theatre and a portfolio for the Department of Art and Art History.
As of Wednesday, the financial aid office said nearly 2,000 applications have been submitted. That’s only a chunk of Chico State’s current student population of 13,000. About 1,700 applications have been started, but not completed.
Every student who meets the qualifications is encouraged to apply by Sunday and to learn about the resources available to help.
There is an online step-by-step guide to help students apply for this scholarship.
