This story reviews the University Police Department’s daily crime logs. An Orion reporter spoke with Lt. Bryce Davison for more information regarding certain logged events from the weeks of Feb. 18-25.
Thursday, Feb. 19:
Call Type: Area Check
UPD performed an activity check at Walnut Street. The officers walked through Walnut Nord Bridge and arrested a person who had a warrant from Butte County.
The officers were looking under the bridge and when they saw a person under the bridge. They made contact with the individual and learned the person had an outstanding warrant for arrest.
The person was then sent to Butte County Jail.
Friday, Feb. 20:
Call Type: Disturbance
Two people had a 415 call on them, meaning they were possibly combative. The witness account was that a male was following a female.
The call was proven to be false and it was a verbal disagreement between the two individuals.
UPD was able to speak to both of them and concluded that no physical harm was done.
Saturday, Feb. 21:
Call Type: Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Circumstance
There was a shooting post on Instagram in response to the Orion’s article covering a protest on campus about ICE.
UPD was notified, and Davison said, due to the generalization of the threat, it wasn’t specific enough to obtain a warrant to search the user’s electronic records.
UPD has been made aware of the threat and no direct actions have been taken due to the vagueness of the threat.
Tuesday, Feb. 24:
Call Type: Disturbance
A non-student female t at 8:35 p.m. attempted to kick down someone’s door at University Village. The suspect was able to enter through a gate being opened by a student who lived there.
The suspect was intoxicated and the Chico Police Department responded promptly to the 911 call, where UPD then headed over after being notified by Chico PD dispatch.
Chico PD previously dealt with the suspect earlier that evening regarding an argument with a male “somewhere down the road,” said Davison.
There were no injuries and deemed there was no alternative motive besides being intoxicated, said Davison.
Wednesday, Feb. 25:
Call Type: Threats Received
A student went online and wanted to talk to someone. They contacted an escort service. The student was not seeking anything sexual, but when the student contacted the escort service, they were informed that they were going to be charged $100.
The student did not want to pay $100 and declined further interaction and they left the website they were on.
The student was then contacted by text messages containing a photo of one or two deceased people.
The person texting was demanding money from the student and threatening violence against the student’s family.
UPD conducted a carrier search of the cell phone number, but it was a spoofed number.
UPD concluded that it was a scam from another country.
Wednesday, Feb. 25:
Call Type: Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Circumstance
There was a report of a phone being prompted on a tree near the Konkow student dorms, by the liquor store.
UPD searched the area and found no phone.
