You could be having the worst day of your life, you just failed a test and almost got run over by an electric scooter, and only one thing can heighten your mood. A loud “BACKAA” rings through Kendall Lawn scaring the bad vibes out of your day.

Since the fall semester, students on Chico State’s campus have been comparing sightings of seemingly free range chickens and roosters wandering the lawns. 

“I’ve seen them last year, but I’ve seen them more recently this semester,” said Maya DeHoyos, a second year accounting major. 

The chickens have yet to become aggressive, besides rumors of chasing students into buildings on YikYak, an anonymous posting app.

According to university officials, the chickens have made their own way to campus. According to Andrew Staples, Chico State’s public relations director, there is no current program connected to the university that is feeding or caring for the chickens. 

While the university takes no ownership of these chickens, it advises to remain civil when interacting with the animals, and try to avoid intentional contact. 

No policies have been put in place by the university or the groundskeepers on feeding or interacting with these chickens.
