This story reviews the University Police Department’s daily crime logs. An Orion reporter spoke with Lt. Bryce Davison for more information regarding certain logged events from the weeks of March 16 to March 25.
Monday, March 16:
Call Type: Theft
Two to three bricks were stolen near the south side between Trinity Hall and the Bell Memorial Union.
Three bricks were stacked side by side next to an opening in the floor, Davison said.
Initially, when UPD officers saw the bricks, they assumed it was part of some maintenance work, but it was not clear.
But when they returned, the bricks were no longer there.
“Sounds like they weren’t certain if it was maintenance or not,” Davison said.
Call Type: Welfare Check
A student was on the phone reporting that a colleague was threatening to commit suicide.
UPD officers transported the person to mental healthcare and a referral to campus resources.
Friday, March 20:
Call Type: Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Circumstance
Two men broke through a fence and stole a bicycle near Building 4 at University Village.
One of the men cut a lock attempting to steal another bike.
“But it sounds like they were interrupted, and that’s when they took off running,” Davison said.
UPD officers were unable to locate the two suspects.
By the time UPD officers arrived, they found a large cutout portion of the fence. They took photographs of the fence and conducted an area check.
When they called in, the reporting person said they overheard what sounded like a fence being cut, Davison said.
A work order was submitted from housing to fix the hole in the fence.
Sunday, March 22:
Call Type: Vehicle Stop
At around 2:30 a.m., a UPD officer made an arrest for a DUI.
The officer was patrolling Downtown Chico when the suspect’s vehicle drove the wrong way on Main Street.
The UPD officer stopped them, administered field sobriety tests to the driver and then arrested them.
Monday, March 23:
Call Type: Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Circumstance
A male on a longboard headed towards Meriam Library reportedly was asking provocative questions to students.
Students told UPD officers he was between the Performing Arts Center and the BMU.
UPD officers responded to and conducted an area check, but were unable to locate him.
This information came from the daily crime logs in UPD’s media bulletin. Not all logs from March 16 to March 25 were featured in this story.
