This story reviews the University Police Department’s daily crime logs from the weeks of April 3 to April 8. An Orion Reporter was unable to meet with Lt. Bryce Davison for this week’s police blotter for comment.

Friday, April 3:

Call Type: Area Check

A man was arrested on Nord Avenue under a bridge. He was found in possession of unlawful paraphernalia and he had a probation violation. 

Call Type: Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Circumstance

Near Lassen Hall, a man was dumpster diving. He was then asked to leave by UPD officers.

Saturday, April 4:

Call Type: Burglary

On West Sacramento Avenue, a reporting person said a vehicle was broken into that was parked at Mechoopda Hall. The break-in occured Thursday night and nothing was found missing inside the car. The outside lock of the car was found on the ground, destroyed.

Call Type: Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Circumstance

Someone called 911 because a group of eight people were trying to open the reporting person’s vehicle. When UPD officers arrived, the group was already gone.

Monday, April 6:

Call Type: Smoke-Smell/See

At Éstom Jámani Hall, the Chico Fire Department was requested to come because of a chemical smell and what appeared to be smoke. People were told to evacuate the building from the fifth floor down. There was no fire, but it was paint drying on a wall.

Tuesday, April 7:

Call Type: Camping/Lodging Complaint

Someone reported that a homeless person was sleeping on a couch on the second floor of the Performing Arts Center. By the time UPD arrived, the person sleeping on the couch was gone.

Wednesday, April 8:

Call Type: Suspicious Person/Circumstance

At University Village, in Building 24, someone was near a trash can, possibly dumpster diving. When UPD arrived, the person was no longer there.
