Everyone has those days where they just want to lay in bed for hours and watch movies, read a book or just sleep. But somehow when the clouds roll in and the rain pours itself into the mix, those lazy days add up.
Especially in a city like Chico where some of the most entertaining activities require you to be outside, fighting the urge to be lazy can become a bit of a challenge. Not to mention, the gloomy weather can be a downer and can even become the root of seasonal depression.
Check out Nicole Williams’ article on beating the winter blues on this page to read more about how to keep your spirits up during the dreary weather.
Being the Southern Californian that I am, I enjoyed those lazy, rainy days for my first two years in Chico. After that, I started to get restless.
So, over the last year and a half I have made an effort to avoid being a sloth multiple days at a time when it is cold and wet outside. And have found ways to keep myself out of bed and off the couch.
Movie TheaterCinemark Tinseltown may not always have the most up-to-date selection of movies, but you sure can’t beat the price of a matinee. For $6 before 6 p.m. you can get out of your house, forget about the rain and escape to a new place for about two hours.
Board GamesYes, I know we are all in college and board games are so second grade, but don’t knock it until you try it. I’m not saying dust off CandyLand or Chutes and Ladders, though those would be just as fun. Games such as Imagine Iff and Cranium allow you and your friends to have fun with your personalities and each other.
ShoppingOne of my favorite pastimes, believe it or not, is to wander the aisles of Target. There is just something about that store that can keep me entertained for a good amount of time. Whether it’s browsing for new releases, stocking up on snacks or people watching, you can’t go wrong.
