The university will be selling parking placards for the restricted parking spots in the structure on West Second and Hazel streets starting fall 2014 semester.
Lorraine Hoffman, vice president for business and finance, wrote in an email to The Orion that the university will make R-1 parking spaces available to students for $197 per semester.
The policy change is a pilot program and the placards will be made available on a semester-by-semester basis, Hoffman wrote.
The parking structure, located behind the University Police station, contains four floors of parking spaces available only to those with R-1 parking placards. More than half of the spaces were regularly empty Monday through Friday morning.
