Every year, the first few weeks of school are crazy and hectic for everyone. Walking through campus can feel like a carnival with all the different booths and tables. From sororities to student productions to local community service, everyone is trying to get the students’ attention.

Lambda Theta Phi

Lambda Theta Phi was one of the tables involved in the busy scene. It is a Latin-based fraternity new to campus.

Jonathan Ballard, a graduate community and regional development and communication major, said tabling on campus is important.

“There are plenty of freshman that are new to campus and even upperclassmen that are trying to find their place on campus, get involved and meet new people,” he said.

Ballard talked about helping students find a new community to join.

“We are trying to reach out to them, give them something to be involved in; a place where they can create a family away from home,” Ballard said.

CAVE

CAVE is an on-campus volunteer opportunity where students can also earn units for school through different programs. CAVE usually tables the first three weeks of every school year, but this year the group will be tabling the whole semester.

“Recruitment is really big for CAVE,” said Sara Whitchurch, a third-year health education major. “The first three weeks of every semester is really crazy and hectic. We are trying to get as many people to come in and bring in applications.”

Whitchurch explains that tabling is an opportunity to answer questions from students.

“They ask what kind of programs we have and how they can get involved,” she said. “They kind of ask a lot about like the application process and they’re really into asking how much work they’re really going to have to do.”

Overall, the goal of CAVE’s table is to be noticed and talked about on campus.

“Our big goal of the table is to be present on campus,” Whitchurch said. “We are going to be tabling throughout the semester. This semester is going to be the first time we are doing that so people see our logo.”

AS Productions

AS Productions is an ­­­organization that puts on movies, concerts and events on campus.

Sage Dalton, a fifth-year double major in marketing and Asian studies, said the purpose of the table is to make their name known.

“We want to get our name out, because we just switched labels,” Dalton said. “We used to be Union Label but now we are AS Productions and we want everyone to get to know us and be familiar with what we do on campus.”

These events are relevant to the students and they should learn more, Dalton said.

“All the student’s tuition goes towards these events and we want them to have the accessibility to come to them,” he said.

AS Productions is not an average booth and he likes to have fun with it, Dalton said.

“We got a great boombox out there and we get people dancing,” he said. “I like to go out there and toss candy up while the kids catch them. Then I hit them with a flyer, kind of changing the ways from typical tabling where people are just sitting there and not interacting with anyone, hoping they’ll come up to their table.”
