Wildcats gets first win of season

The Chico State women’s soccer team got its first win of the season as the Wildcats beat 25th ranked Seattle Pacific University Falcons 1-0 on Wednesday night.

The eventual game-winning goal was scored by forward Shelby Lanksbury with 38 minutes left in the game.

“The ball was dibbled down the line to Pooja Patel. She hit it off her head and then it hit off Lindsey Dias,” Lanksbury said.” I hit it with my left foot and went in the far post.”

The first half was a battle. Both teams played strong defense, and. at the half the score was 0-0. The Falcons out shot the Wildcats 11 to four.

Goal keeper Brianna Furner aided Chico’s winning ways with three saves on the night. She also picked up her 20th career shutout.

The Wildcats are now 1-1-1. The team squares off against Saint Martin’s University at home on Sunday at 11 a.m.
