    Chico State women’s golf takes 6th at Torrey Pines

    The Chico State women’s golf team opened up the season at the Point Loma Nazarene Fall Preview tournament and placed sixth out of 12 teams that competed.

    The Wildcats shot a 26-over par 323 during the first round of the tournament. The ‘Cats finished the tournament in the second round with a 27-over par on the North Course at Torrey Pines, putting the team at a overall 53 over 645.

    Abbey McGrew and Bianca Armanini placed in the top 25 golfers in the tournament at 18th and 22th, respectively. McGrew hit 5-over par during both rounds to tie with Kathleen Crossley of Point Loma with a score of 158.

    During Armanini’s first round, she scored a 7-over par 79 and improved to 5-over par during the second round to end at 12-over with a final score of 160 and a tie with Alyssa Orito of Point Loma.

    Spencer Downey finished the tournament landing in a five-way tie for 33rd place with a score of 15-over and a score of 163. Dani O’Keefe was in another five-way tie for 38th place with a 16-over par and a score of 164.

    During her first collegiate tournament as a college golfer, freshman Illeana MacDonald scored a 9-over par during both rounds and a final score of 18-over par for a score of 166.

    The next tournament for the Wildcats will be in Goodyear, Arizona at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate on Sept. 22-23.
