‘Cats golf team takes first individually, second as team

Chico State’s Justin Wiles finished in a tie for first place for the men’s golf team at the season-opening Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Chico State took second as a team.

Wiles ended the tournament at 8-under par. while teammate Alistair Docherty collected his 10th top-10 finish in 13 tournaments since the start of last season. Docherty carded a 3-under par, good for ninth.

Lee Gearhart had the team’s best round, a 4-under 68, to finish the tournament at a 2-under par and tied for 12th.

As a team, Chico State finished 3-under for the tournament, five shots behind Mountain Community College.
