The Chico State men’s soccer team failed to snap its losing streak Sunday afternoon after falling against UC San Diego with a final score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game came in the last 15 minutes of play, when UC San Diego’s senior midfielder Brandon Bauman managed to find the back of the net with a header.

The game was a defensive match up, with both teams only allowing 14 shots combined throughout the day. The first half ended with San Diego holding a slim 3-2 lead on shots over Chico State.

Prior to Chico State’s four-game skid, the team was sitting in second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. Following Sunday’s game, Chico State is now 0-4 in conference play with a 5-4-1 record overall.

Despite the team’s current struggle, assistant coach Zach Bradford remains optimistic for Chico State’s chances of winning its remaining games.

“We just need to keep doing what were doing,” he said. “We’ve just got to keep working hard, and hopefully the results will come.”

According to Bradford, Chico State still has eight games to play, which is enough time for the team to make a run, he said.
