Womens soccer plays to a tie

Halima Abdelshife put the ball in the net with 23 minutes left in regulation to tie the game 1-1 and sent the Chico women’s soccer team into overtime against UC San Diego Sunday afternoon. Two overtimes later, the game ended in a tie.

Abdelshife’s goal came off of a header, set up from Katie Woodrum’s corner kick.

The Trtions led the game up until that point. Katie O’Laughlin’s goal came uncontested and set the tone early on a hot day, with the ‘Cats trailing most of the game.

Chico State put up six shots in just the second half to try and get back in the game

Abdelshife’s goal lifted the ‘Cats momentum heading into overtime. While the ‘Cats put on a shot in overtime, it was off target.

The shots taken were close to even, with UC San Diego edging Chico 13-10. The Tritons also topped the ‘Cats 5-3 with shots on goal.

The tie moves Chico State to 5-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The ‘Cats next stop will be at Humboldt State Friday at 12:30 p.m. and at Sonoma State Sunday at 2 p.m.
