Kicking off the year, the Chico State men’s golf are in sixth place at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate, hosted by Washington State University.
After two rounds of three, the Wildcats are still hanging with the 12-team field, which consists of a majority of Division I schools.
Alistair Docherty was a leader for the Wildcats, as he carded a 70-68 on the par 70 course. Docherty, a sophomore, is also tied for seventh individually at 2-under par, three strokes out of the lead.
“I played well today and am looking forward to playing better tomorrow to help push the team up the leaderboard,” Docherty said.
The rest of the team helped keep the NCAA Division II, No. 13 ranked Chico State squad in the game. Sophomore Lee Gearhart finished in at 71-74, senior Ricky Owaki carded a 74-72 and sophomore Scott Raber shot a 75-71. Sophomore Will Flitcroft scored a 72-77 to round out the day for Chico State.
The ‘Cats compete in the final round of the tournament on Tuesday.
