Women’s basketball defeats Stanislaus

The Chico State women’s basketball team got off to another slow start, but this time the ‘Cats were able to score 50 points in the second half to pick up the win.

The ‘Cats beat Cal State Stanislaus with a final score of 85-79 to earn the team’s first conference victory of the season. They improved to 1-2 in conference play and 4-3 in the overall season.

After going 4-19 from the field to start the game, Chico State answered with a 19-5 run to take the lead.

The ‘Cats took their lead to halftime, before putting up 50 points in the second half. Senior guard Hannah Womack led the way in scoring, posting a career high 25 points and seven rebounds.

Freshman guard Whitney Branham also tallied 18 points — a new career high.

Three other players reached double figures in the game: senior forward Michelle Walker put up 11 points and nine boards, while senior Annie Ward and junior Chanelle Di Croce contributed 10 points each.

The two teams both started hitting threes to start the second half, but Stanislaus could never quite catch the ‘Cats as the road team went on a late 11-1 run to take a 76-64 lead that they took to run away with the game.
