After Fridays night’s victory against San Francisco State, the Chico State women’s basketball team faced Sonoma State and got their second victory in a row with a final score of 63-56 on Saturday.

From the start of the game it seemed like Sonoma State had control, scoring first and making the Wildcats trail behind.

The ‘Cats had a rough time dealing with the Seawolves’ offensive pressures, until freshman guard Whitney Branham, made a 3-point shot to tie the game at 13-13.

Sonoma State’s junior point guard Tanner Adams, made a 3-pointer giving the Seawolves an 8-point lead with four minutes remaining in the first half. Branham was the leading scorer of the night, scoring 19 points including five 3-pointers.

After missing four shots behind the arc, senior guard Hannah Womack, ignited the crowd after making a 3-pointer with only two minutes left in the first half bringing the score to 18-25.

Chico State started the second half behind, with a 20-25 score. With only a minute into the half, senior guard Annie Ward, and junior forward Brooke Bowen, made consecutive 3-pointers to help the Wildcats take a two point lead.

Womack tied the game at 49-49 with only 45 seconds left in the game. Sonoma State’s freshman guard JoNae Gonzalez, attempted to win the game but missed a 3-point shot, after it bounced out from the rim as the buzzer went off, taking the game to overtime.

The ‘Cats dominated in overtime, keeping Sonoma State to 56 points for the game.

The Wildcat’s will be traveling to Cal State East Bay on Jan. 23 where they will try to extend their winning streak to three.
