The Chico State women’s golf team ended its first tournament Tuesday, smashing records and bringing home a Wildcat win after the final round at Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz.

The women competed in an 18-team playing field at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate and jumped their way to number one after finishing in eighth place after the first round of play.

The Wildcats broke the all-time record for the lowest score in a single round and tied the record for the lowest two-round total, shooting a collective 4-over par 292. All five Wildcats, including Heather Fegley, Spencer Downey, Dani O’Keefe, Sarah McComish and Abbey McGrew finished individually within the top 25.

Junior transfer Spencer Downey explained that this victory was a huge excitement for the team.

“Words cannot explain this feeling,” Downey said. “It’s a rush and I’m so honored to be a part of such an amazing team.”
