Zombie apocalypse back on campus

Beware. The zombie apocalypse has come. Students have been seen running around campus throwing socks and wearing orange headbands. But don’t worry it’s not the real apocalypse.

It’s a basically tag game called Humans vs. Zombies. Humans hunt zombies and protect themselves with socks. Once a zombie is hit by a sock they are temporarily stunned. If a zombie catches a human then they too become the walking dead.

The humans wear orange bands tied to their arms while zombies where them around their heads. After running through campus, The Orion finally caught time to chat with a human and a zombie.

Sarah Otten. Freshman pre-nursing student. Human.

The Orion: How many semesters have you played?

Otten: First year.

The Orion: What’s your favorite thing about Humans vs. Zombies?

Otten: When I walk by humans they’ll talk to me. It’s like a small community.

The Orion: Describe Humans vs. Zombies in one word?

Otten: Paranoia.

The Orion: How’s your experience so far?

Otten: It’s fun, but I haven’t had the chance to throw socks or run from anybody.

The Orion: What’s your strategy for staying human?

Otten: I don’t have one, but my classes are close to where I live so easy escape.

The Orion: How did HvZ interest you?

Otten: I like playing tag and it grabbed my attention.

Brianna Faulkner. Senior biology major. Zombie.

The Orion: How many semesters have you played?

Faulkner: Two semesters.

The Orion:  What’s your favorite thing about Humans vs. Zombies?

Faulkner: I like that it doesn’t have a specific time and it’s a week long so no matter how busy I am I can still do it.

The Orion: Describe Humans vs. Zombies in one word?

Faulkner: Run.

The Orion: How’s your experience so far?

Faulkner: It’s been fun. It’s really a lighthearted game. You interact with people you don’t know. When I was a human, another human high-fived me even though I didn’t know them.

The Orion: How did you become a zombie?

Faulkner: I was walking into Plumas when I saw a zombie. I tripped and fell trying to get away.

The Orion: How did HvZ interest you?

Faulkner: It sounded fun and I mean the name is Humans vs. Zombies.
