Local bands aim to topple world record

In an enthusiastic attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest multiartist concert, I-Play-in-Chico, Get Foxy Productions and The Tackle Box are joining forces for Chico Breaks the Record!

The current marathon concert record stands at 15 days, 12 hours by AJ O’Neil at AJ’s Music Cafe in Ferndale, Michigan. Chico plans to smash the record to bits by hosting a concert for 30 days straight. That means band after band, playing set after set, for 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the entire month of April.

The bands are only allowed a 25-second break between songs, five minutes between sets and a minimum of 10 people must be in the crowd at all times — whether it be 3 p.m. or 3 a.m.

In addition to live music from proficient and well-rehearsed talent, there will be incentive prizes such as gift certificates and music-related items from various sponsors supporting the event.

According to the event’s Facebook page, “The idea behind this attempt is to bring international attention to Chico for its thriving and talented local music scene.”
