Behind the strength of junior All-American men’s golfer Alistair Docherty’s career-low 66 in the final round of the California Baptist Invitational on March 24, the Wildcats claw up the leaderboard from seventh entering the final round to take home third place.

It extended the team’s streak of top-five finishes to 16, including the first eight events of the 2014-15 season.

Docherty finished third after carding the day’s low score and jumping from 25th to third place for his fourth straight top-10 finish at one-under par.

Chico State, ranked third in the nation when the tournament began, came to the course Tuesday in seventh place following Mondays first two rounds.

With the low team score of the day, 1-under par 287, the team finished 13 shots behind Simon Fraser and 5 strokes behind second place Sonoma State.

Junior All-American Lee Gearhart took home sixth place at even par, just one stroke behind Docherty, with a final round 74. Freshman Colby Dean came through with a final round even-par 72 to finish eight-over par and tied for 21st. Zachary Sardina carded a final round 80 and finished in a tie for 66th in the 83 man field at 21-over.
