A small fire started in the Aymer J. Hamilton Building, also known as the Child Development Center, around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Fire fighters rushed to the scene and began to evacuate everyone in the building before focusing on isolating the smoke caught inside the ceiling.
“We don’t have any active flame we just got a light smoke that’s pushing through the attic,” said Wes Metroka, a captain in the Chico Fire Department.
Fire officials latter determined there was an electrical malfunction in the attic which caused the fire.
Any children in the building during the fire were moved to Modoc Hall.
The Aymer J. Hamilton Building reopened Tuesday.
