A waterline bursted on the corner of 9th and Orange street around 3 p.m. Monday. Chico Fire Department conducted traffic control as California Water Service crews tried to reverse the flooding.

“We’re working with Cal Water in protecting the assets of the community,” said Fire Captain Carlos Munoz.

It is unsure at this point what the cause of the leak is. Cal Water shut down five valves to seal the pipes, while relying on storm drains to take care of the large amount of water in the road.

In some areas the flooding was a deep as 2 feet. The fire department is working with residents and businesses to divert the water from entering their buildings.
