The Butte County division of the League of Women Voters hosted their final candidate forum on May 3 for the District 1 primary election.

The forum took place in the Harlan Adams Theatre and sought to introduce the community to the prospective candidates’ stances on local, state and federal issues.

The candidates in attendance included Joe Montes (R), Jim Reed (D), Jeff Gerlach, Gregory Cheadle (R) and Gary Allen Oxley (R).

They answered questions from the audience, local papers and the League of Women Voters.

Questions addressed included national topics, such as immigration reform and Donald Trump’s wall.

The panel also received questions regarding how the candidates plan to obtain funding for Chico State and Butte College: Northern California’s primary higher education institutions.

The panel concluded with each of the candidates giving a two-minute closing statement.
