Chico Police Department received 1,372 calls in the closing days of “Welcome Week.”

The first full weekend back to school prompts many students to go out, party and have fun.

Within the 66 hours between August 18 and 21, 54 arrests were made.

This was the second weekend of patrol for the Chico Police Department C-team. The new patrol team focuses on the Westside and Downtown areas.

“I think this year the police are making their presence more well-known,” junior pre-nursing major, Emmeline Hurley said. “Students feel more safe when they go out, even if it results in more arrests.”
