Pedestrian hit by train
An individual was hit and killed by a train near the Amtrak station on Orange Street.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. according to Chico police. The police are still investigating this matter and did not give an official statement on what occurred.
“We are hoping within the next half hour to get this train moving by then,” said Chico S.W.A.T Officer McKinnon.
McKinnon says the plan for moving the train includes backing the locomotive from traffic intersections and allowing Union Pacific to handle all of their personal.
The officer advised Chico State students to not crawl under or climb over the stop train.“This train is hundred cars long so when they start moving it there won’t a big whistle.”

I have been reading stories of students getting run over by trains for 20 years now, when are they going to move the tracks away from the heavily congested student neighborhood? You’ve had these noisy, barreling trains racing through that neighborhood for years, occasionally killing students. Seems to me they should have moved these tracks somewhere else years ago, they are a vestige of the past. But nothing is ever done about the problem of noise and death the trains bring to that neighborhood. You can argue – easily – the reason nothing is done because it’s out-of-town college students that are getting killed, not local voters.
