The combined effort of junior forward Jo Paine and junior guard Whitney Branham Dec. 4 couldn’t lift the Chico State women’s basketball team over Cal State San Marcos.

The loss extends Chico State’s overall season record to 5-3 and gives it a conference record of 0-2.

In her 33 minutes on the court, Paine posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Paine was also a major factor for the Wildcats defense as she blocked three shots and made a steal.

Along with a strong defensive effort, Paine was also a consistent scorer in the post, with nine made shots on 14 attempts. She also sank one shot from outside, and made two shots from the charity stripe.

Branham was another tenacious rebounder, with eight boards in the game. She posted 21 points and utilized her trips to the line by making seven of eight attempts.

Although Branham and Paine both put up 21 points in an attempt to lead the team over the Coyotes, the team lost in the final minutes 61-63.
