Minimum wage on the rise
Twenty-one states kicked off the new year with increases to their minimum wage laws. Some states poised to raise their minimums up to $15 an hour.
California and New York have both committed to raise their minimum wage incrementally to $15, New York by 2019 and California by 2022.
Seven of the states are increasing their minimums along with inflation according to the consumer price index.
While Arizona is sporting the largest increase of $1.95, following their plan to have a $12 minimum by 2020.
All these measures are in an effort to increase stagnating wages and keep the wage floor equivalent with the standard of living.
“I believe keeping wages the same isn’t working. So at the very least, I think it’s a good step forward,” said senior business administration major Andres Maldonado.
