Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity remains suspended after failing to appear at district court in Redding.

The fraternity was summoned after allegations of littering and cutting down dozens of trees in the Deer Creek campground in Lassen National Forest, in April.

On the scheduled court date in June, the fraternity and president Evan Jossey were to face charges for their actions.

The fraternity, and a lawyer to represent PIKE, never appeared in court. They will remain suspended until arraignment for the charges can be continued.

While Chico State initially investigated the incident, Patti Waid, Executive Director of Public Affairs stated, “The University has been asked by the U.S. Forest Service to refrain from proceeding with its investigation until the service has completed pursuing its case in court.”

“One-on-one interviews with individual fraternity members also are planned once the University resumes its internal investigation,” Waid stated.
