The battle between businesses, beer, and city officials has long been a heated one. With the forces of the university combating a drinking problem, and the Alcoholic Beverage Control denying liquor-licenses to downtown businesses, it seems like there is no hope for business owners to cash in on this 21st Amendment freedom.
I can understand the concern of police to limit the availability of alcohol, but I question its impact. If people want alcohol, they can get alcohol. This is constantly being proven by college freshman across the nation. By disallowing businesses to sell this potential moneymaker, authorities are limiting the potential profits for the local economy.
Fight on my fellow alcohol advocates! If shop owners can decipher the process behind the policies, they should be granted the license to profit on its sales.
