A woman riding her bicycle on East Avenue was struck by a vehicle Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on West East Avenue when the cyclist had been riding near the sidewalk, but turned into the left-hand lane in front of westbound traffic and was struck by a white SUV, according to Julia Yarbough, information officer for Chico Police.

Traffic flow was reduced to one lane due to the incident, but was reopened soon after. The woman, 56, was transported to Enloe Hospital with minor injuries.

“We do not have additional information on her injuries or current status,” Yarbough stated. “The Chico Police Department reminds the public to always practice safety when riding bicycles and to obey the rules of the road. We advise riders to always wear a helmet while riding a bicycle and be aware of traffic.
