What do five men, including one of the world’s leading banjo players and a string quartet, have in common? A new twist on combining string instruments in an imaginative performance.
Explore the contemporary sound of string music with Bela Fleck & Brooklyn Rider Banjo Quintet, courtesy of Chico Performances, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in Laxson Auditorium.
Known world-wide for his talent on the banjo, Fleck has paired with the quartet, Brooklyn Rider, to create a symphony with a twist — a “banjo concerto.”
Now a quintet, the member’s imaginative styles have combined to create a complex string performance that’s unlike anything else.
Intrigued by the banjo’s unique sound, Fleck has been mastering his craft since the early 70s and has since proved his innovative bluegrass style.
Add two violins, a viola and a cello and let the layers of technique and creativity unfold together with energy, passion and intensity.
Influenced by many styles, they have truly produced a different sound.
Join Chico Performances next Thursday to find out if it hits the sweet spot.
Tickets may be purchased online or at the box office.
