Baker throws strikes in Thursday’s sweep

The Chico State men’s baseball team got back to their winning ways, grabbing two victories from Azusa Pacific Thursday afternoon.

During game one, the Wildcats broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when catcher Jake Bailey smacked a two run single into right field. The ’Cats would hit two more two run singles in the sixth inning from designated hitter Jeffery Ortega and third baseman Ruben Padilla.

The Wildcats would hold onto the lead for the rest of the game, winning 6-2, with the win going to starting pitcher Alex Mistuloff.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Wildcat ace, Nick Baker would be the story of the game.

Baker would throw a complete game, three-hit shutout, to record his first victoryy of the season.

The ’Cats would get one run in the second inning on a double from Peter Miller, which would account for the loan run of the game.

The Wildcats now improve to 3-1 and will get back to action starting at 11:00 a.m. against Azusa Pacific Friday at Nettleton Stadium. The second game of the planned doubleheader has been canceled due to rain.
