K9 Odin detects narcotics in traffic stop
On Sunday evening, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a Chico Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle by the intersection of Pillsbury Road and Cohasset Road, said the CPD news release.
The CPD officer requested a K9 unit to help with the traffic stop after making contact with the driver, who was identified as 21-year-old Kyle Silva-Larva.
“CPD K9 Officer Parsons responded to the scene with his partner, K9 Odin, who is a dual purpose canine that is used for patrol and narcotics detection,” said the news release.
When conducting a scent search outside the vehicle, K9 Odin picked up the scent of narcotic order within the vehicle. Both officers began to search the interior of the vehicle and discovered the following items:
- 93 Oxycodone pills
- 15 Hydrocodone pills
- 325.09 gross grams of Marijuana

- Suspected narcotic packaging materials
- Loaded 9mm handgun
Silva-Larva was then arrested and taken into custody for Possession of Narcotics for Sale, Possessing a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Transportation of Narcotics and Possession of a Loaded Firearm. He was later transferred to Butte County Jail.
