Chico State CFA walked through Kendall Hall to deliver a petition to President Gayle Hutchinson on Nov. 8.

The California Faculty Association of Chico State walked through Kendall Hall on Monday to deliver a signed petition to President Gayle Hutchinson asking her to encourage the California State University Chancellor Joseph Castro to settle contract negotiations with the faculty union.

Across the CSU system, the CFA has been working with the office of the chancellor since July 2021 to accept a 4% raise for faculty.

“This is our position,” Sistrunk said. “We’re all united by the same academic mission, we believe the president can intervene on our behalf with a faculty contract that is well thought out and considered to make things better for all of the CSU, California and the planet. So I hope they’ll take this seriously.”

The CFA moved towards the president’s office chanting, “When we fight, we win” until arriving where CFA President Timothy Sistrunk handed off the petition which received 299 signatures.

The petition was accepted by Brooke Banks, chief of staff to the president.

“Chico State greatly values the contributions of our faculty and the critical role they play in student success,” Banks said. “We also respect and support the rights of CFA to voice their opinions, as they did today. We are hopeful that negotiators for the CFA and the California State University system can find common ground and reach agreement on a new contract through the current mediation process.”
