    Chico State women’s golf finishes second in shootout

    The Chico State women’s golf team was able to pull out of the Pioneer Shootout in the top three for the fourth time in five outings in 2013-14, finishing in second place.

    Chico State entered the final round with a four-shot lead Sunday, but the 37-over par 325 Sunday wasn’t quite enough to claim a victory, as they collectively scored 68-over 644 in the 36-hole event.

    The No. 9 ranked team finished with four of five Wildcats placed in the top 15 individually. Spencer Downey ended in fourth place with a 13-over 157, followed by Sarah McComish placing seventh with an overall 15-over par 159. Abbey McGrew and Dani O’Keefe finished tied for 13th carding 20-over 164 in the 36-hole play.

    The ‘Cat’s will return to play hosting the InterWest Invitational at Canyon Oaks Country Club March 10-11.
