We get letters
As you might expect, sports editors at The Orion receive plenty of e-mail every week.
This semester has been no exception. There have been the requisite responses: ‘You don’t cover my team enough,’ or ‘You’re an idiot for ripping Sacramento State.’ Those are expected, and frankly, I probably wouldn’t survive the week if the Chico State lawn dart team didn’t complain about lack of coverage. (Two more weeks, fellas.)
Still, I imagine most of the messages to be late night homework procrastinations, well-intentioned notes from aging alumni, or completely bogus missives from my friends under clever pen names like Tiger Woods. (Apparently Tiger follows Chico baseball and thinks coach Lindsay Meggs should bat leading hitter Steve Newson in the three hole).
So this week, as a courtesy to the readers, I decided to open The Orion sports e-mailbag for all to enjoy. (Note: some letters have been HEAVILY edited and all names have been changed.)Dear sports editor, When are you going to run a story on my buddy Fish? He’s the best sloshball player in Chico, and that’s saying a lot. — Mickey McBier
Ed: Never.Dear sports editor, Is bar crawling a sport? — Susie McBier
Ed: No.Dear sports editor, Why is softball struggling so much after going to the Final Four last year? Can men’s track win the conference title again? Can baseball keep this up? Is men’s lacrosse really on the bubble for Nationals with a No. 8 ranking? Where’s my five iron? — Tiger Woods
Ed: I don’t know. Leave me alone, Tiger.Dear sports editor, Chico State sports suck because we don’t have a football team. We should bring it back to give the students something to do. — Eric McCareless
Ed: Actually Eric, last week’s AS elections included a referendum that would’ve restarted the football program, but sadly, it was voted down. You must’ve been among the 13,000-plus that didn’t vote.Dear sports editor, I’m a North State high school athlete. I play 16 sports and I’m the star athlete in a senior class of 13. What sports are my best options to turn pro in? — Joey Nospeed
Ed: The WLDA is a promising new pro lawn dart league with many opportunities for a young North Stater.Dear sports editor, Why do you hate Sacramento State so much? — Sac Fan
Ed: Chico could use another crappy team to beat up on in CCAA play.Timothy can be reached at <a href= “mailto:[email protected]”>[email protected]
