This time last year, the National Society of Leadership and Success was on the verge of disbanding due to low numbers and lack of funding, according to Alex Horne, a junior business major and the membership outreach chair. The society has become one of the largest groups on campus.

The society now has over 300 members and eight executive board members at the Chico State chapter. The new leadership was approached by a representative from the national chapter to aid them in improving the local chapter last May.

The Chico chapter sends out invitations every semester and for fall 2015 the invitations will go out in early September. The society is a national organization that has 485,264 members and 512 chapters. According to junior Justin Peterson, publicity chair for the society, the benefits of being a member include scholarships, volunteer opportunities, personalized recommendation letters, an increased network of people and leadership training.

In the upcoming months, they will host several training days to help inspire future leaders, volunteer opportunities such as helping at the Kirshner Wildlife Foundation and a fundraiser at Chili’s on Aug. 31.

Non-registered members are encouraged to attend hour-long orientation sessions on Sept. 8 and 9 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Selvester’s Cafe-by-the-Creek.

 The executive board members have been hard at work this summer making sure that this year, reaching out to their members and planning the events that will follow this semester.
