Embrace holiday cheer with Christmas music on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. for an Irish Christmas at Laxson Auditorium.
Celebrate the holidays with Chico Performances’ presentation of an Irish Christmas musical, a story about love, friendship, joy and happiness.
The story encompasses popular holiday melodies and Celtic choreography. The musical reflects a traditional Irish celebration with songs such as Little Drummer Boy and Silent Night and all of the performers wear traditional clothing including Irish jig shoes.
The performance features five musicians, 10 dancers, four vocalists and one storyteller. Director Margaret O’Connell explained the cooperative nature of the production:
“The ensemble is a folk theatre with superb performances from all individuals,” she said. “This work is about the value of community and we focus on that at all times. We all need one another to make things happen.”
Along with famous percussionist Jackie Moran, the musical is accented by a symphony filled with flutes, fiddles, accordions, pipes and Irish drums.
