Don’t be an unhappy Scrooge this year. Embrace holiday cheer with Christmas music on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. for “An Irish Christmas” at Laxson Auditorium.
Celebrate the holidays with Chico Performances’ presentation of “An Irish Christmas” musical, a story about love, friendship, joy and happiness.
The story encompasses popular holiday melodies and Celtic choreography. The musical reflects a traditional Irish celebration with songs such as “Little Drummer Boy” and “Silent Night.” All of the performers wear traditional clothing including Irish jig shoes.
The performance features five musicians, 10 dancers, four vocalists and one storyteller in a cooperative production, said director Margaret O’Connell.
“The ensemble is a folk theatre with superb performances from all individuals,” she said. “This work is about the value of community and we focus on that at all times. We all need one another to make things happen.”
Along with famous percussionist Jackie Moran, the musical is accented by a symphony filled with flutes, fiddles, accordions, pipes and Irish drums.
