Enloe opens new cancer center

Enloe Medical Center is unveiling a new cancer center on Saturday. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature refreshments, prizes, a health fair and a tour through the center.

The comprehensive center has facilities for treatment, including state-of-the-art radiation therapy machines. There is also a healing art exhibit and a garden to allow patients to spend time in a comforting, calm environment, complete with fountains. Some of the treatment rooms even look out onto the garden to give patients a serene view during treatment.

There is also a fully stocked library of books, videos and internet access for patients to research their own types of cancer and treatment options.

Crazy for compost

Students interested in learning how to turn their yards and kitchen scraps into wholesome, nourishing compost can come to any of the Associated Students Recycling Program’s fall composting workshops.

On Oct. 5, 6, 19 and 20, students can take part in the free program and learn what materials can be used in their compost bins.

Advanced compost enthusiasts can come to a similar program on Oct. 26 and learn about turning garbage into quality compost.

Proper compost bins are odorless and can process about five pounds of food waste every week, reducing fees for garbage collection and saving valuable landfill space.
