The Chico State baseball team moved into first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Friday night after splitting a double-header against Cal State San Bernardino.
The Wildcats won the first game of the day 4-3 behind seven scoreless innings on the mound from Brad Lohse. In game two, the Wildcats’ bats fell asleep and were shutout 4-0.
Even with the loss in the second game, the Wildcats moved past Sonoma State for first place in the CCAA thanks to a Cal State Stanislaus sweep of Sonoma State.
Lohse improved his record to 8-0 on the season, giving up five hits and striking out four batters. Ruben Padilla and Eric Angerer got the scoring started with RBI singles and catcher Peter Miller hit his first homerun of the season securing the win for the Wildcats.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Marcos Lara gave up four earned runs on seven hits and absorbed loss.
The Wildcats improved to 32-8 overall on the season and 24-7 in conference play. The team returns to the diamond Saturday, looking to improve its first place record.
