Marcos Lara got two runs of support Friday night in San Diego. He probably only needed one.
The right hander threw seven shutout innings as the Chico State baseball team beat California Baptist 2-0 in the NCAA West Regional.
Lara scattered six hits and struck out four on the night. The Wildcat offense backed Lara with a pair of runs in the fifth on two RBI ground-outs from Danny Miller and Cody Slader.
Luke Barker closed out the game to earn his 16th of the year, breaking the Chico State single-season record.
The No. 9 Wildcats will face off against UC San Diego at 11 a.m. Saturday. These two teams have faced off six times already in 2014, most recently a Triton win to take the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship.
