Police arrested a Chico State student on suspicion of carrying a concealed and loaded gun during a pursuit early Sunday morning.
Ryan Patrick Mcauliffe, 20, was captured at 2:33 a.m. on the 400 block of Hazel Street.
The arrest occurred after police responded to reports of a possible fight between 30 men, according to a press release from the Chico Police Department.
When police arrived, one group told the officers that a member of the other party was carrying a handgun, according to the release. They tried to convince a man into surrendering shortly before he began to run away.
The officers pursued the suspect on foot with the help of a K-9 unit, according to police. During the chase, the suspect threw a loaded pistol, which police retrieved.
The K-9 subdued the man while officers handcuffed him.
