The Chico State women’s soccer team beat Saint Martin’s 3-1 in Chico on Sunday.
The Wildcats were familiar with the back of the net early, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes.
Junior Nicole Roberts set the tone by scoring in the ninth minute off of a corner kick that grazed a Saint Martin’s defender as it went right into the goal.
Just four minutes later, another shot sailed past the goalie of Saint Martin’s. This came from sophomore Lindsey Dias at 10 yards out from a set-up pass from sophomore Katie Brown.
It didn’t stop there.
Chico pushed the ball up the field to score their third goal of the half, just two minutes after scoring for the second time. Roberts put one into the top of the net from 18 yards out, making it her second goal of the day.
Chico led at half 3-0. That was all they would need.
At the 55 minute mark, Saint Martin’s scored for the first time of the day and that is all they could get.
The win put the team at 2-1-1 overall with a home record of 2-0. Chico State will continue its season Friday at 2 p.m. at Dominican University for a non-conference match.
