Students can be seen at the Wildcat Recreation Center chugging down the latest protein shake or eating an energy bar, hoping it will fuel their bodies and aid in recovery time.
Instead of buying expensive post-workout food products, I was inspired to make my own protein bar bites, or WRECing Balls, that are quick and simple to make.
Total Time: 30 minutes
Yield: 6 WRECing Balls
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons protein powder
- 2 tablespoons quinoa flakes
Directions:
- First, chop up the pitted dates.
- Next, combine the cocoa powder and coconut oil in a medium-sized bowl until it becomes a liquid consistency.
- Add the protein powder to the bowl, then add the chopped dates.
- Use your fingers to break up the dates, and keep mixing all of the ingredients together until it becomes a paste-like consistency.
- Pour quinoa flakes into a small bowl so it will be easier to coat the WRECing balls.
- Using your hands, press together 1 tablespoon of the mixture into a ball shape, then coat with the quinoa flakes.
- Continue making the WRECing balls and place on a baking sheet or plate.
- Put the completed WRECing balls into the freezer for 15 minutes to set.
- Store the WRECing balls in the refrigerator for best results.
